To provide a reliable efficient and professional contract manufacturing and design facility for companies that have had no manufacturing experience or for those who could not justify large capital expenditure.
The director of NJS Electronics, Newton Spargo, was previously employed by PYE/Philips at the Waihi plant for a period of 20 years. The position held at the time of factory closure [1986] was Senior Engineer and Technical manager of the Product Engineering Department, responsible for new product development and liaison with Marketing personnel. This position involved travel to the Far East and South Asia seeking new products and components for local manufacturing. Other responsibilities included supervision of electronic engineers, draughting personnel and production engineering personnel.
NJS Electronics was formed in October 1986. Firstly, to keep this knowledge and experience together, and also to provide a reliable efficient and professional contract manufacturing and design facility for companies that have had no manufacturing experience or for those who could not justify large capital expenditure.
Over the last ten years we have gained a credible reputation and have offered a professional approach to business matters. NJS Electronics has concentrated on producing industrial type products requiring a high level of expertise. The current production is mostly [about 90%] exported via our customers. In addition we have exported product into Australia.
Eight years ago we could see the need for Surface Mount Technology for products made in New Zealand. One year later we were the first company [that only handles contract manufacturing] to install an Automated Surface Mount Technology Plant.
The expertise gained with these new technologies now places us with that of much larger companies. Good team management and staff that are committed to Quality Improvement have been and will continue to be our strengths. With the ISO9002 certification pending, we are well placed to continue to be a viable production unit.
In 1992 we wanted to 'benchmark' ourselves against other industries and so entered into enterprise awards for both Waikato and Thames Valley areas. NJS Electronics won Best Small Manufacturer in Waikato and won the Manufacturing Section and runner up for Export in the Thames Valley area. Over the last few years we have been runner up on the Business Development Quality Awards - "recognising your commitment to quality".
